About Us

Choice Wellbeing Service CIC was founded in 2023 by a group of individuals who all shared an equal passion of mental health. This group of individuals are a mix of both parent carers and non parent carers brought together by CEO Tracey Huggins.

Tracey, being both a parent carer and someone who had struggled with her mental health since her daughters diagnosis, had realised there was a big gap in the system, where care for the parent and not the child was lacking. From recognising an additional need, services for the child would be an instant, well ran process. However, these service would not take into consideration the parent, their needs or their physical and mental wellbeing.

Understanding that there was limited opportunity for parent carers to be taken seriously when discussions arose around mental health, Tracey set off to earn herself a qualification to put herself in spaces where she would be heard. To change the system, for herself and for others.

Upon seeking education, she discovered counselling was the route she would take. This is where Choice started to become a vision that grew. Working alongside Sunderland Parent Carer Forum, attending college and university, making friends and acquaintances along the way... Choice was becoming less of a dream and more of a reality. It can be done, with the right people.

Now we are here. Choice Wellbeing Service CIC is made up of four parent carers with 50+ years experience between them, and four non-parent carers who are more than willing to listen and learn from the experts in this field. The parent carers themselves.

Below you will find our CWS family, those with the passion to make a small change which will make the biggest impact to someone.

"I have always known that I wanted to work within a career where I help people and hopefully make a difference in someone’s life. Throughout working as a counsellor I have seen and noticed the need for counselling for adult carers."

"Because knowledge is power and feeling helpless hurts so if I can pass on even one piece of knowledge to one parent carer then I feel that is a good day’s work"
